Cornmeal refers to the coarse flour (meal) that is obtained when dried corn is ground. Cornmeal is eaten in various forms all across the world. Boiled cornmeal is called polenta in Italy and it is also a traditional dish in Romania. However, mostly cornmeal is used to make cornbread.
